Rehman Malik Passes Away at 70

Pakistan is mourning the death of a former senator, former federal minister, and a former Pakistani ambassador to Saudi Arabia, Rehman Malik. He was seen as a very controversial figure but he was respected by many.

There have been many tributes to him already. But we will have to wait for his funeral to see who shows up and who doesn’t. Senior PPP leader and former senator Rehman Malik passed away on Wednesday in Islamabad due to coronavirus-related complications, his spokesperson Riaz Ali Turi confirmed, He was 70.

Malik was appointed to lead a PPP delegation for dialogue with political parties and civil organizations over the Panama Papers issue, in which Prime Minister Nawaz Sharif’s children were embroiled. Pakistan Peoples Party Chairman Bilawal Bhutto Zardari and former premier Raja Pervaiz Ashraf have expressed grief over the death of former interior minister Rehman Malik.




Who was Rehman Malik?

Former Pakistan Peoples Party (PPP) senator Rehman Malik, who served as the interior minister under the last PPP government, passed away on Wednesday in Islamabad due to coronavirus. Malik had been ailing since March when he was admitted to the Pakistan Institute of Medical Sciences (PIMS) in Islamabad. He breathed his last at 5:55 pm on Wednesday, the PPP said in a statement.

Rehman Malik, a former senator and Pakistan People’s Party (PPP) leader and former federal interior minister in Pakistan, passed away on Wednesday due to a viral illness. He was suffering from Coronavirus (MERS-CoV), a viral respiratory disease that is life-threatening.
